Meet Dr.
Nedim Yel.

Dr. Yel earned his PhD at Arizona State University in Measurement, Statistics, and Methodological Studies, a quantitative methods program in educational psychology, with research in multilevel modeling and Bayesian methods. His dissertation examined how sample size affects key parameters in longitudinal three-level models, the same planning question many doctoral students now bring to him. He has also served as a Harvard Strategic Data Fellow and holds an Executive Certificate in Business Analytics from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business, which informs his work with business, management, and DBA researchers. He has worked as a statistician, methodologist, researcher, and Co-Principal Investigator on federally and foundation-funded projects.

His experience includes statistical support for a National Science Foundation randomized trial conducted across 22 colleges, Co-PI leadership on an Institute of Education Sciences project focused on sustaining evidence-based practices in schools, healthcare outcomes research with the Boston VA, and large-scale education and access-to-justice studies.

Before statistics, Dr. Yel earned a master’s degree in technical communication and rhetoric at Texas Tech University, where he taught technical writing. That training still shapes how he helps students write results chapters, design tables and figures, and explain their analysis at the defense. He also holds a master’s degree in global technology and development from Arizona State University. Having studied and taught in Turkey and the U.S., he works with many international doctoral students.

Today, he also works as a Senior Data Scientist building AI products. Across settings, the aim is the same: choose methods that fit the question, make the reasoning transparent, and produce results that hold up to scrutiny.
